Interesting bird interactions at KL Bird Park

I know many are dying to go out after staying at home for almost 2 months during MCO period and some are even still working from home til today. And I know that our international borders are not opened yet so we have limited choices of place to travel, right? Wrong.

In fact, there are many attractions in Malaysia that have yet to be discovered by many. Just like our very own KL Bird Park, right at the heart of Kuala Lumpur. And honestly, I'm also guilty of not discovering many of our country's attractions and I,for one admit that I have never been to KL Bird Park. So, I popped the cherry this weekend!

First time here and can't wait to see what awaits me.

KL Bird Park is an eco-tourism destination situated right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. It is home to more than 3,000 local and foreign birds of approximately 200 different species. Sprawling approximately 20.9 acres of verdant valley terrain, the park is divided into 4 zones; Zone 1 and 2 make up the free-flight zone; Zone 3 is the Hornbill Park and Zone 4 is where the birds are placed in separate cages and mini aviaries.

Of course, KL Bird Park also adheres to the new normal SOP with temperature checking, contact tracing and social distancing.

In fact, all around the park were notices to remind people of social distancing and to wear mask at all times.

One of KL Bird Park's most extraordinary feature is that in Zone 1, 2 and 3, birds are let free in the aviary which closely resembles their natural habitat. With this free-flight concept, birds are able to breed naturally in this unique environment.

Hence why I'm able to capture this picture so closely. The birds were all friendly and didn't attack any human.

Peacock.

Yes, they are all around freely walking/flying and visitors are able to take pictures with them(if they don't walk/fly away haha)

Beautiful flamingoes with pink legs <3

Visitors can also buy fish food and feed the fish and the black swan in the pond.

Duckling!

There are feeding stations all around for the birds to feed on the fruits provided by the park. So they are kept full hehe

Sleeping owls in the morning.

Stork.

There were many stork scatted around and very human friendly.

These are the daily activities around the park.

Hornbill.

We were here for the Hornbill feeding; one of the daily activity where visitors can witness the same daily at 11.30am. Interesting to see how the food is thrown up for the Hornbill to eat.

Then we went to feed Lories.

I'm actually quite scared of animals and that includes bird. So, when they gave a small cup of liquid for the birds to drink, they flew to me almost immediately catching me off guard. Quite scary and I actually looked scared before the photographer told me to calm down and smile more naturally hahahah (all the while thinking *please don't bite me* *please don't bite me*)

But they were harmless and very co-operative. These kind of interactions are really good for children especially.

They had a photobooth too where you pay to enter to have photos taken with the birds on you. At this point, I was still robotic coz I didn't dare to move *laughs*

After a good interacting session and a good walking around the bird park, we were famished and it''s time for lunch at the Hornbill Restaurant at KL Bird Park. Visitors who don't intend to visit the Bird Park but still wants to eat at Hornbill are also welcome.

Such refreshing Lychee Tea to quench our thirst (RM10.90).

Another thirst quencher. Coconut (RM12.90)

Fish & Chips (RM29.90)
Very generous with huge portion.

Nasi Goreng Malaysia (RM19.90)
This is the non spicy version. You can opt for the spicy version as well.

Malaysian Chicken Curry (RM19.90)
Served with rice on the side.

Chicken curry.

 Sarawak Laksa (RM19.90)

Spicy Tom Yum Soup Noodles (RM19.90)

Satay 1 dozen (RM26.90)

Overall the food was delicious. But, I have to give it to the team at the Hornbill Restaurant for their efficiency and speed. Never have I seen a restaurant who served drinks and food minutes after ordering. In fact, there were many customers on that day yet they managed to serve the food at high speed. After a sweaty long walk, to come into a restaurant to chill with drinks and food served so fast just makes your heart full =)

Come and visit KL Bird Park and experience the same as well.

Take advantage of their current promotion.
Their tickets are really reasonably priced. For children, they even reduced their price since 2019 and it's only RM6 for those between 3-11 years old. Very worth it especially children will love the interactions with the birds.

I myself encountered so many bird species that most I don't even know the names but I had so much fun discovering new species, stand up to my fear of animals, enjoyed some nature walks and had a fulfilling meal at the Hornbill Restaurant. I hope you do too xoxo
