Buka Puasa 2020 @ Armada Hotel, PJ

How are you guys doing in this quarantine period? Hope everyone is staying home, healthy and sane! Haha

Well, hopefully this Covid pandemic will end soon in time for the month of Ramadhan. This Ramadan, inspired by the homely taste of Malay ‘kampung’ comfort food, Utara Restaurant at Hotel Armada Petaling Jaya invites you to feast on mouth-watering classic traditional Malay favourites.

The aptly themed “Citarasa Kampungku” Ramadan Buffet will see an approximate 100 dishes on offer, whipped up by Executive Chef, Chew Teik Chye and Sous Chef, Alifah Binti Kandar also affectionately known as Chef Mommy. The tantalizing spread will feature a mixture of local, Japanese and Western specialties that is bound to satisfy your palate after a long day of fasting.

Memories of your kampung favourites will come flooding back as you embark on your gastronomic journey with an appetizing assortment of flavours that are rarely on offer at urban diners. I must say, I never miss a Ramadhan review from Utara, Armada because they truly serve delicious spread of authentic Malay food.

For Kerabu fans, expect an assortment of kerabus, each tasting even better than the next. This appetizing starter includes Kerabu Mangga, Kerabu Nenas, Kerabu Kaki Ayam and Kerabu Udang.
Kerabus

Nasi Ulam.
The herbs was very aromatic.

Continue down memory lane with lip-smacking mains that have become Hotel Armada’s Ramadhan signature classics such as Laksa Thai, Bubur Lambuk, Sambal Udang Petai, Ketam Masak Gulai Siam, Ayam Berempah, Ikan Pari Masak Asam Pedas (Kawah), Daging Masak Hitam, Paru-paru Goreng Berlada, Rendang Itik, Sup Tulang Rusuk, Ikan Sembilang Panggang, Pucku Paku Goreng Belacan and the all-time favourite Siput Sedut Masak Cili Padi.

Laksa Thai.
The spicy, savoury, creamy soup was delicious as always. A must try in this Ramadhan buffet.

Ketam Masak Gulai Siam.
I always always look forward to this dish for obvious reasons haha. Crab is my favourite food but the spicy gravy made it even more yummy. My favourite!

Daging Masak Hitam.
This was also a fan's favourite. The beef was soft and flavourful.

Ayam Berempah. This is comfort food!

Sotong Masak Lemak Cili Api.
Anything seafood with masak lemak cili api will go straight to my tummy! The squid was soft and tender and easily eaten.

Udang Sambal Petai.
Fresh prawns with sweet spicy taste!

Pucuk Paku Goreng Belacan.
It's been a loong time since I've eaten Pucuk Paku. Another fan favourite. First dish to wipe off during our review hahaha

Nasi Briyani for carbs lovers.

Paru Goreng Berlada.
Oh my, another dish which I have not eaten since ages ago. This buffet spread really bring back fond memories.

Ikan Pari Masak Asam Pedas.
Another signature dish!

Sup Tulang Rawan.
What's Ramadhan without sup tulang?

For jeruk lovers, you are not left out!

Diners can also enjoy favorites prepared ala-minute like Apam Balik, Roasted Lamb, Assorted Satay, Roti Durian and loads more at the stalls set up around the Bakar-Bakar area.

Complete your meal on a sweet note with desserts that include traditional Malay Kuih, French pastries and tempting sweet delicacies such as Pengat Nangka with Sago, Ais Cendol with Pulut, Bubur Gandum and Bubur Kacang Hijau. Wash it all down with local drinks Air Bandung, Air Sirap Selaseh or Teh Tarik.

Dessert time!!

Pengat Nangka Sago.
A bit too sweet for me.

Ais Cendol Pulut which has a balance of creaminess and sweetness.

Prosperity Yee Sang.
You can't start a reunion dinner without yee sang!

Herbal chicken consomme with dried scallop.

Super therapeutic on a cold rainy day and so happened we were there on a rainy day so this soup was extra good. Second bowl please haha

Pak Far Chicken.
I actually love the side 'wantan' lookalikes haha. I took like 3-4 pieces LOL. It's chicken made into 'wantans'.

Wok Fried Tiger Prawn with Buttered Coconut Almond Flakes.
Something different than usual and I actually love almond so it was a good combo.

Yong Chow Fried Rice in Lotus Leaf.
Well, if you are not full by the end of it, there's always the Lotus rice to keep you company. But since it's a buffet, I'm pretty sure you will be full so this can actually go well with all the above dishes. It was tasty and very traditional which is something I love.

Deed Fried Garoupa Thai style. In my opinion, I would prefer something steamed. Nevertheless, the fish was fresh and crispy with a sweet sauce to top it off.

Chinese Fried Chap Chye with Mushrooms. This is super traditional. Something home made feel which mothers will love when they come.

Stir Fried Kam Heong Mussels.
Mmm love anything seafood with kam heong. This was definitely one of my favourite.

Desserts =)

Deed Fried Nein Koa with Sweet Potato. Yay! Cannot do CNY dinner without nian gao and it's the only dessert that I'm looking forward to every year.

Red Bean paste Mochi. Soft and chewy.

Chilled Mango Puree with Pomelo and Pearl Sago.
The Mango puree was the icing of the cake. Something cold to end the day. Not very sweet and just nice for all ages.

Ramadhan buffet with Armada Hotel, PJ

Ramadhan is coming sooon! So means, more bazaar ramadhan is coming up and that also means more FOOODD hahaha...This Ramadhan, Armada Petaling Jaya is once again celebrating this joyous occasion of “Berbuka Puasa” right at Utara Coffee House.

Themed “CITARASA KAMPUNG”, the team of culinary masters is cooking up a
gastronomic storm of mouth-watering traditional and international favourites. Guests can expect to indulge in only the most authentic method of preparation and ingredients this coming Ramadhan.

With more than 100 dishes available, Executive Chef, Chew Teik Chye and his Sous Chef, Alifah binti Kandar aka Chef Mommy showcased a wide selection of dishes that emphasizes on a variety of flavors and scent that will titillate your palate after a long day of fasting.

Bring back the nostalgia of balik kampung when you start your gastronomic journey with an appetizing assortment of starters from Kerabus, Cincalok to Lemang, Pasembor and Aneka Jeruk. Fire up your palate even more with the variety of classic Sambals, the ones that are rarely seen at urban diners with Sambal Kelapa, Sambal Ikan Masin, Cincaluk, Jeruk Kedondong, Jeruk Mangga, Jeruk Buah Pala

I love authentic Malay dishes and to have lemang, nasi kerabu and its sambals were a mix of heavenly spices as starters.

For the mains, be sure to taste some of the most delicious and authentic Ramadan dishes.

Nasi Kebuli Berlauk.
The raisins in between helped in making the rice an extra flavour of sweet together with all its 'rempah' essence in it.

Ekor lembu masak asam pedas.
The asam pedas was a good combo of sweet sour with not one overpowering the other.

Udang Kelio.
I think I might have overeaten my dosage of prawns for that day *laughs* The 'kuah' has seeped into the prawns making it super tasty that the first suck makes your taste buds excited. Now I feel like my mouth is watery thinking about it ^^

Siput sedut masak lemak cili padi.
Another favourite. Only that, you need skills to eat this to take the 'meat' out. Nevertheless, the kuah lemak is spicy and yummy and I don't mind just pouring the kuah on rice haha

Oh my! My favourite seafood of all seafood.

Ketam masak berlada.
This was the first I attacked >.< I love my crabs cooked dry and the lada sauce is a combo of spicy with its sweet crab meat making it taste heavenly.

Bubur lambuk dengan daging cincang.
I'm not really much of a fan of porridge but this one took me by surprise. It was very flavourful and the congee thickness was just right without making it 'jelak'.

Daging Kicap Berempah.
The daging was so soft and the rempah also seeped into the meat making it juicy..Mmmm

Pisang Muda Masak Lemak Ikan Masin.
The banana with the ikan masin taste was outworldly. Something I have not eaten before and I kinda like it.

Kari kepala ikan.

Ikan Bawal Masak Terutup.
The fish was also a fan favourite.

Itik Kerutub.
The duck meat was soft and succulent and it didn't disappoint.

Sambal hijau terung pipit dengan belacan.
It was a lot of spicy in between so this belacan added to a different kind of spicy altogether. I mean I love spicy so all those spicy food was tickling my taste buds in a good way.

Ayam Palembang.
Chicken fans, you will love this. Now, this one is not so spicy to me.

Laksa!
If you're not a rice fan, this is definitely a great alternative for you.

Diners can also enjoy favorites prepared ala-minute like Roasted Lamb, Apam Balik, Assorted Satay, Murtabak, Lidah Sapi with Air Asam, Ayam Percik Panggang, Roti Durian and loads more at the many stalls set up around the Bakar-Bakar area.

Desserts include traditional Malay Kuih, French pastries and tempting sweet delicacies such as Pengat Nangka with Sago, Bubur Pulut Hitam, Ais Kacang and Serawa Durian with Pulut all prepared specially for the sweet tooth. There’s also a variety of beverages prepared for you to quench your thirst: Cincau, Kelapa Muda, Jagung, Kembang Semangkuk, Selasih and more.

Dessert

Pengat Nangka Dengan Sago.
The nangka was sweet and juicy and together with the sago, it was also a fan favourite.

Serawa Durian dengan Pulut.
This is for durian fans, like me! I love this. The durian taste was pekat and it was very filling. Yummeh!
