Here's a short story of how Thanksgiving came about(taken from CBN.com);
"The Pilgrims came to America and landed at Plymouth Rock on December 11, 1620. Their first winter was devastating. Weak and sick - they began to die. The Pilgrims needed help to survive and they got it from an English-speaking Indian named Squanto.
Historian Peter Marshall explained, "Here comes this American Indian suddenly who speaks perfect English, who offers them his services. So they plant all this corn under his tutelage. The corn began to ripen finally, and they want to have a celebration, a Thanksgiving celebration.They looked at everything as a gift from God, even the sorrowful things they saw as God allowing them to perfect their character "
And so the tradition lasted till today. It's a religious significance. But well today, people celebrate Thanksgivings with Turkeys, with a football game and a beer in hand!
But taken from the name, Thanksgiving is a celebration of thanks! We should give thanks for all the blessings in life. If you think you're not blessed enough, think again. I'm sure those who have less, have more to be thankful for in their humble lives! I know I have a lot to be thankful for =)
So count your blessings people! Be thankful for the little things in life. We are so worked up and busy these days that sometimes we overlooked certain blessings and yet we curse and complain all the time. So, take a step back and start counting your blessings =))
Happy Thanksgiving(if it's not too late)!
P/S: Today is Black Friday(one day after Thanksgiving)!! Which means shops in US are having extreme sales for one day only which will kickstart the Christmas shopping season.
PPS: Even if we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Malaysia, how I wish we have Black Friday sales as well...I would totally go mental with the discounts!!
