Registration of Marriage in JPN Shah Alam

People used to tell me that compiling documents for the registration of marriage in Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) was so much hassle. Well, if you did some proper research, I can assure you that it's not a hassle at all. I did mine at JPN Shah Alam. I would like to share my experience of the same. Of course, it also helps that I am OCD and love compiling documents and being organised HAHA

So just let me lay down some important steps for you and you will find that ROM is quite easy after all. We went to JPN Shah Alam because our addresses are in Shah Alam. But I think you can also go to Putrajaya but I am not too sure about that. But if you want to do it at JPN Shah Alam:

1. You will need to prepare in advance one(1) passport coloured size photo for both husband and wife and your identity cards of course.

2. Choose a preferred date for your ROM and go to JPN 1-2 months before that date for application submission.

We went to the one at JPN Plaza Masalam, Section 9 Shah Alam.

3. Both husband and wife must be present at JPN to submit your application form. The original application form (KC02) must be taken from the counter at JPN, filled in and submitted before the officer together with your MyKad.

4. The officer will then let you know if your preferred date is available and if available, she will then ask you to come back in 21 days to get the letter of approval.

5. In the meantime, they will advertise both the pictures on their wall to see if there's anyone who comes forward to object the marriage *choi*

6. If none, come back to JPN again to get the letter of approval and pay RM10.00. For this, either one can come back to collect.

7. Then, just wait for the BIG day to arrive. Prepare 2 witnesses above 21 years of age and to bring their MyKad. We just got our moms to be the witnesses. Easy haha

8. On the BIG day, we chose the venue at JPN UTC Shah Alam. It was very new as it just opened few months before and we chose that because firstly, it was nearest to our home and secondly, it opens during Saturdays. We did it on a Saturday where you can come anytime from 8.30-10.30am. Bring along the letter of approval, MyKad and 2 witnesses.

*nervous* I was going to be someone's wife >.<

9. We needed to take a number and once called, there's a payment of RM20.00 to be made for the marriage certificate.

10. Once paid, wait again for your number to be called into a private room.

11. When number is called, go to the private room with all your family members and friends. Initially, the letter wrote that only 12 people can enter the room. However, when we saw the previous couple got married before us brought one whole rombongan which definitely exceeded 12 people but the JPN people still accepted them. I guess because it's a happy day and you do not want to disappoint people on their happy day, right?

12. Once entered, there will be an officer who will be there to conduct the registration. Husband and wife will stand up while the witnesses will be seated on either side. The rest will be seated behind and can take pictures as much as they want. They were quite flexible so it was a very comfortable atmosphere.

13. The officer will read out the legal terms and then pronounce you husband and wife. That's it! HAHA. All in all, it only took 5 minutes when entering the room to be legally husband and wife LOL And honestly, I couldn't decipher what was the person saying in English (it was quite bad) and due to the nerves or what, I really didn't hear anything. All I know was that he was mumbling something and when he kept quiet and looked up at us, we just have to say 'I do'. No vows nothing and in a blink of an eye, we are already legally married HAHAH No kidding!

14. After that, sign the certificates and take all the pictures you want (especially if there's no other couples waiting outside) before leaving.

It's done and legal!!

It was a rather simple procedure and easy going. To those soon to be married couple, I wish you luck!

And that's how I got myself a husband hehe
