Omakase at Honest Butcher by Chef Nickt

I would say Honest Butcher has one of the most underrated omakase. I only found out about their omakase through word of mouth and even so, I tried to find reviews online but not many were found. If I was not looking for a good wagyu omakase, I wouldn't have found this place. But thank God I found it. We went in skeptical but left super fulfilled. Mind you, we were comparing against Yakiniku Great because that was the only other wagyu omakase we went to and that was definitely a 5/5 IMHO. Now, let's get into the food! The Honest Butcher has 3 different price range for omakase- RM388, RM588 and RM788. We went for the RM588 per pax which serves Australian and Japan wagyu.

Beforehand, I have already arranged with them that my husband doesn't eat raw food nor seafood and asked whether they could curate different dishes for him? Because I saw some reviews that they do serve sushi in between. They very kindly agreed and said no problem and said if I wanted sushi in my omakase, they could do that too- so his without and mine with. I was honestly very impressed with their service at this point and placed my booking!

Off we went all the way to Sunway Damansara. Took us 1 and a half hours okay!

You can see their trademark cow figures in front of the restaurant. It's honestly a warehouse type of restaurant among other factories so we were a bit skeptical hehehehe

Now comes the omakase course.

Appetizer was warm croissants with French butter and Truffle Butter.

Then came my huge plump oyster. So fresh, so yummy, it melted in my mouth <3

The replacement for the oyster was this cold wagyu dish for the hubs.

Sushi no.1 for me.

Torched wagyu for the hubs.

Topped with truffle.

Uni, ikura on top of sushi rice for me. Super yums!

Wagyu for the hubs.

Engawa for me =)

Beef bourguignon done with beef cheeks cooked for 13 hours with truffle mash on top. This was one of the best bourguignon I had and the beef cheeks were super soft!

Chawanmushi with foie gras...Mmmm...yums

Then came our main meat platter- a mix of Australian and Japanese wagyu.

Australian beef tongue with salt & pepper.

Beef tongue in onion sauce. Tongue is not my thing. It was quite tough.

But after that, each wagyu that come was better than the other. There were Australian Marble 8, Marble 9, then came Japanese wagyu which were the best. So, I would say, straight go for the RM788 omakase because it's purely Japanese wagyu and they were the best.

Each were seared there and then by the chef and brought to us.

Torched sauce on top.

Topped with frozen foie gras. Oh my, this made my taste buds do all kinds of dance LOL

Their torched sauces were just amazing.

The last Japanese wagyu was dipped in egg yolk sauce and it was just perfection!

And then we had claypot rice with char gyu. It's not char siu because they don't sell pork but it's made of wagyu so it's called char gyu. Seriously, it tasted exactly like char siu, the sauce and everything was so yummy! This is Chef Nick's specialty. Also, you must try their chilli sauce. Spicy and blends well with the rice.

Chef Nick, the owner has a policy. If you are not full, they will add on until you are full. They asked if we can still eat and we were like we wana try the char koay teow because we had been hearing multiple orders of this dish but felt like we can't finish because we were almost there LOL So, I asked for just one portion.

Nope, they were super generous and came with 2 portion and we ate until we were absolutely filled to the throat HAHA The pork lard was replaced with wagyu bits so there were crunchy bites in between which made it so special.

Then came out the finale meat dish. Wagyu in hot soup and mine had some clams as well.

Almost couldn't stomach dessert also hahaha but since they had this super unique chendol ice cream, we just had to give it a try. Was really good!

Chef Nick is almost our age only yet he's super talented.

I would say the dishes definitely catered to Malaysian taste buds. The sauces, the char koay teow and char gyu were very Malaysian. This is why we love our country so much. Wherever we go, we still love Malaysia and its food hehehe I love that they had some sushi in between so you wouldn't be sick of just meat dishes. But, I must applaud our chef Robert who also curated some different dishes for my husband to cater to his allergens. The chefs were all very friendly and told us many stories and kept us entertained the whole night. I would probably come back to try their RM788 omakase the next round.

Sushi Oribe Omakase

Sushi Oribe is one of the most best rated omakase in KL. However, this is my first ever time trying haha. After countless reviews from friends, I decided to bite the bullet, drove through the jam and rain and try Sushi Oribe Omakase. I took the Mino Omakase at sushi counter for 2 pax.

The environment was cozy, comfy and the staff were all nice and friendly but I must say, the chefs were very enthusiastic and they seem to enjoy what they are doing which makes the whole omakase experience less serious and an enjoyable experience as a whole.

We started with an appetizer bowl.

Then the chef grated fresh ginger for us. I love the pickled ginger in normal sushi restaurant but this was way nicer and crunchy!

First sushi of the day. Hirame- Flounder

Shima Aji-Amber Jack

Akami

Sea Eel

Ainame- Fat Greenling

Kamasu- Japanese Barracuda

Chawanmushi

Chutoro

Kinmedai- Golden Redeyes Snapper.

Sushi roll with uni.

Buri- Adult yellow tail

Harakami Otoro

Engawa- Flounder Fin

Mouth cleansing platter.
Wasabi spinach.

Radish.

Miso soup.

Cholesterol bowl or as the chef says; nasi campur hahaha

Tamago

Yuzu tea.

Dessert.

Chef Hiro attended to us and he was super friendly!

Most of the sushi melted in my mouth and I couldn't ask for more. For RM328++, I think it's one of the reasonably priced omakase in town. I think it was very value for money and honestly, we were full at the end. The whole omakase experience with the lovely chef was very much enjoyable. If you like a light hearted environment, not so serious like other places, fantastic melt in your mouth sushi, then I think you can consider Sushi Oribe. The reviews were true and not an overrated place.

Rohto Eye Care Raises RM135,000 For Myopia Awareness

Rohto Eye Care is the World's No.1 eye care brand which is currently my favourite eye drop brand =)

Rohto has successfully raised RM135,000 for its “Sending Love & Care: Children with Myopia – Joy of Seeing” CSR campaign. This is done through a month-long fundraising initiative in collaboration with Watsons whereby RM1 from the sales proceeds of all Rohto Eye Care products sold in Watsons from 1st to 31st August 2022 was channelled to the campaign fund.

Myopia is an increasingly common condition amongst children. According to global trends, it is estimated that by 2050, half of the world’s population could be affected and this condition is highly prevalent in Asia. Although genetics is a key factor in developing myopia, lifestyle also plays an important factor in the onset of myopia such as usage of digital devices for long hours, reading under dim lighting and the lack of sleep.

In this campaign, Rohto Eye Care joined hands with Kiwanis Malaysia District and Focus Point Vision Care Group Sdn Bhd to reach out to the rural schools in creating awareness of Myopia and also to identify B40 students in need of prescriptive glasses.

Beneficiaries of this campaign include Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Parit Mahang in Jeram and SK Bukit Badong in Ijok. Both schools combined, have total of over 1,760 students, with 50 percent the students belonging to B40 families.

According to Lim Mei Yuen, General Manager of Rohto-Mentholatum, the main objective of the Rohto Eye Care ‘Sending Love & Care The Joy of Seeing’ campaign is to help increase awareness of Myopia amongst children and to educate them on ways of taking good care of their eyes.

Through this meaningful campaign, Rohto Eye Care will donate 200 pairs of prescriptive glasses to the B40 children. They hope to help them to improve their vision, which will in turn enhance their learning capabilities.

Over the course of 4 days, approximately 840 students were offered eye screening to determine if they needed prescription glasses.

To make Myopia education more fun at the schools, Rohto Eye Care also incorporated activities such as a blindfold game and art competition, which aimed to remind students about the importance of sight. One of the students, Nur Damia Habriyah binti Mohamad Norzaki who was blindfolded during the game said that he understood how losing sight feels and will start taking better care of his eyes.

Other than an outreach to primary schools, Rohto Eye Care in collaboration with Focus Point also held an educational talk show on Myopia via a Facebook Live session to raise awareness of Myopia and to educate the public on eye care tips.
