Oriental Steamboat review

A new steamboat place is in town! Oriental Steamboat just opened this month and is at Jalan Segambut. Although it is a new place that recently opened, there were so many people on a Monday night when we were there. It was full house plus on a rainy weather, I guess we were all craving for some hot soup for dinner. And the best place to be is a steamboat place.

The unique concept about Oriental steamboat is that they operate from a lorry. This is because the whole place is actually a huge space for lorry placement in the morning and afternoon. However, at night, they transformed it into a steamboat place. Hence, they only open at night from 5.30pm-10.30pm (Sunday off)

The surroundings had no other shops between it. It is open air with tent on top so it was cooling. Quite cozy I must say and the young lady boss is ever ready to help with a friendly face =)

Yummy! Couldn't wait to dig into the delicious offerings.

They have a steamboat set for RM19.80 per person.
This set is for 1 pax and there's quite a lot of ingredients. There's a mix of seafood, vege, balls, egg and noodles. This should suffice for 1 person!

Now, this set is for 2 people.

Huge platter and will not go back hungry!
And their prawns are not the tiny ones!

Then, you can top up with other ingredients with ala carte price. You do not need to buy a set and can just go ala carte as well.

There are 5 different soups to choose from:

Clear soup (free)
Pork bone broth (RM15.00)
Tomyam soup (RM6.00)
Spicy soup (RM18.00)
Tomato Soup (RM18.00)

We tried the pork bone broth and tomyam soup.
The spicy soup is more mala style which we wanted to try but decided to go with tomyam instead. But I think I preferred the tomyam coz after trying the mala type, it was a bit too oily for my liking but my husband loved the spiciness of it for dipping. The pork bone broth was milky but was more on the mild side. The tomyam was the fan favourite on the table because it was spicy yet sour and sweet and if you add their green chilli, it went very well =)

I think the broth for steamboat is the most important because we are drinking the soup all the time so I thought the tomyam broth was really appetizing for my liking making all the ingredients delicious too. However, if you have children on the table, best to couple it with the pork bone for the children.

Their ala carte offerings were really fresh, affordable and yummy.
Sea urchin ball which was my favourite.

Cheese tofu, fish ball with cheese, handmade fish ball were all really good. In fact, these are their specialties...

..because they all have delicious fillings in it.
The cheese fish ball was my favourite. Filled with bursting cheese, you would need at least 2 plates of this! I would come back just to eat them! Yes, it was that good and something worth coming all the way for. Different from other steamboat shops.

Their seafood were all very fresh as well. Scallops were tasty, prawns were large and the sliced abalone was my favourite. It was very sweet and we kept asking for more hehe They also have other selections which include snow crab leg, crab claw, clams, fresh seabass sliced and etc

Their meat selections include sliced pork belly, sliced pork collar, Australian sliced beef and lamb shoulder and sliced chicken.
 Mmmm..

 Red and appetizing.

Just dip into the hot broth and into the mouth!

Since it was open air and on a rainy day, it was not hot and sweaty unlike other steamboat shops so we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there.

Their prices are all very reasonable and it is a good place for a family dine out! Easy on the pocket too =)
