#unicef4MOMS

Mother's Day is just around the corner. In conjunction with Mother's Day, UNICEF is joining the people in Malaysia to pay tribute to their mothers for their unconditional love and affection in raising the next generation.

Do you know that 350,000 mothers die from pregnancy and childbirth complications every year? A woman in a least-developed country is 300 times more likely to die in childbirth or from pregnancy-related complications than a woman in a developed country.

A mother’s death in childbirth denies her children their natural, primary caregiver. Infants whose mothers die within the first six weeks of their lives are more likely to die before reaching age two than infants whose mothers survive.

These deaths can be prevented. UNICEF knows that the most effective way to protect mothers is to ensure that a trained provider with midwifery skills is present at every birth, along with transportation, quality obstetrics and emergency care.

Therefore, UNICEF works to ensure that access to emergency obstetric care and the provision of skilled midwives are a priority in national health plans, and assists its partners with assessments, training and logistics.

You can play your part by donating supplies for children and women HERE or you can share the love by spreading awareness about this campaign =)
